Near at hand the shingle ridge of Slapton Sands (below) has the sea on one side and the fresh water, Slapton Ley (Right), wild bird sanctuary on the other.
  
         
The three mile long beach comprises, east to west, Pilchards Cove, Strete Gate, Slapton Bridge and Torcross and is served by three car parks. Pilchards Cove is well known by naturists, acceptance being on an informal basis and a degree of discretion. Nowhere else along this stretch of beach are naked bodies accepted. (Pilchards Cove is the only naturist beach in the area and does NOT include Landcombe Cove.)

What is the most important item you should pack for a camping holiday?
Yes they supply it! Loo roll.
They supply most everything else as well.

Summer opening times Monday to Saturday inc. 7a.m. to 6.30 p.m. Sunday 7a.m. to 1p.m. and 4p.m. to 6p.m. Post Office times 9a.m. to 5.30p.m. Monday to Saturday inc.

  Tents and awnings require pegs! They supply them as well, together with milk, bread, bottles of wine, beer, papers and magazines and a hot water bottle should you need it.
There is a selection of good local produce, meat, bacon, burgers and bread plus fresh fruit and vegetables, some even grown in the village.
Need to cook it and open it? Calor gas, instant barbeques and charcoal, bottle and can openers and scissors!
Forget the washing up liquid? Yes, and they sell washing up hardware, bowls, brushes, dishcloths, tea towels and pegs and lines as well. Bother, the baby needs some more nappies, those as well!
Try a little relaxation! Beach equipment! Small toys, buckets spades and windbreaks and the Lottery. Ice-cream.
Torches and batteries, greeting and post cards, local confectionary and souvenirs, they have it all.
